The Guitar Amplifier Current Limiter Junior (GACL JR) (aka
Dim Bulb Tester or Light Bulb Limiter) was designed to be used to test guitar
amplifiers for shorts, but it can also be used with other electronics. It uses an incandescent light bulb to absorb excessive
current caused by a short circuit to light brightly when there is one. This
saves fuses and other parts from burning up, which can be costly or difficult
to repair or replace (ex. transformers, special parts no longer made,
etc.). It's a very handy and useful piece of test equipment to: · Safely test old guitar
amplifiers · Test amplifiers that are
blowing fuses · Safely turn on newly built
amplifiers · Form filter capacitors When a normal, properly working amplifier is plugged into
the GACL JR and turned on, the light bulb lights up brightly
for a second and then gets dim. This is normal as there’s an initial current
rush, which then settles down. If the amp has a short, you'll know it immediately
as the light bulb stays brightly lit. This is why it's also known as
a "dim bulb tester" or “light bulb limiter”. Includes:
18AWG three conductor power cord with three prong plug
Light bulb socket
This is a “must have” for vintage guitar amplifier
collectors and for amplifier, radio and electronics service, repair and
modification. You'll find yourself using it often as one of the first tools you
reach for when checking out an amp. Get a Guitar Amplifier Current Limiter Junior (GACL JR) and
feel confident about testing your guitar amplifier for shorts. Light bulb not included. You must use an incandescent
bulb for this to work properly. A 100-watt bulb is recommended. Ready to ship. There may be a slight variation(s) in
appearance due to parts availability. Disclaimers · Use with caution · Use with a grounded
